Miniature Portrait of an unknown Gentleman

A pair of portraits of a Lady and a Gentleman; she wearing pale blue dress decorated with lace edging, matching bow at her corsage and beads around her shoulder, pearl necklace, drop pearl earring, her upswept hair adorned with strings of pearls; he wearing blue coat, chemise, white stock and natural wig. He signed and dated on the obverse, GS/ 1748; she signed on the obverse, GS, gilt-metal frames, his with reverse glazed to reveal a lock of blonde hair tied with gold wire on blue glass. Oval, 44mm high. Bonhams 23 May 2007, Lot 40.
Although these miniature portraits were sold together the frames are different and there is nothing to confirm that the two sitters were related. Hence it is not possibly to confirm the year in which the miniature of the lady above was painted.
