George Marsh
Commissioner of the Navy
(1722-1800)

Portrait of George Marsh Commissioner of the Navy
(1722-1800). Possibly painted by the artist Sir Joshua Reynolds or by Lemual Francis Abbott.

There appears to be two versions of this portrait and possibly others.  The above is possibly by Reynolds and is probably a copy based on the copy below.

Portrait of George Marsh Commissioner of the Navy
(1722-1800). Possibly painted by the artist Lemual Francis Abbott.

The above copy appears to have come up for auction in 1986 together with his seal of the Navy Office.  It is noted as being painted by the artist Lemual Francis Abbott.  I am not aware of the present whereabouts of this portrait.  If you know where it is I would be very pleased to hear from you.  Please contact me at jj@jjhc.co.uk
